AJR

AJR is an American indie pop band by brothers Adam, Jack, and Ryan Met, collectively a trio of vocalists, multi-instrumentalists, and songwriters. AJR was incepted in 2005 and performed locally and exclusively offline until 2012—busking, tap dancing, and singing covers around New York City, where all three are alumni of Columbia University. Before the What Everyone's Thinking Tour (2017) and during college, AJR wrote a self-referential indie pop song "I'm Not Famous", as the band had only released one platinum single and two EPs and had played some opening gigs for other artists and some empty-seated headline shows for once. After the Neotheater World Tour (2019–2020) and during COVID-19 pandemic, AJR aired a livestream concert, One Spectacular Night (2020), the private pay-per-view broadcast had 3.3 million fan reactions via online chat. By using songwriting, concert production, online parasocial interaction, and a signature fur trapper hat, AJR has lasted more than 19 years, completed seven headlining tours, expanded the tour capacity to 447,000 attendees, and become one of the 100 top-selling touring artists in 2024. In the 2010s and the 2020s, AJR recorded over 100 songs and a live album and released five studio albums: Living Room (2015), The Click (2017), The Maybe Man (2023), and the two US Billboard 200 top-ten albums Neotheater (2019) and OK Orchestra (2021). The 2017 electropop platinum album contained their first Billboard Alternative number-one song "Sober Up" (featuring Rivers Cuomo). The 2021 orchestral pop gold album spawned their first Hot 100 top-ten single and also the Billboard Music Award Top Rock Song, "Bang!". AJR is a multi-platinum band for having eight platinum singles, including the two aforementioned songs, "I'm Ready", "Weak", "Burn the House Down", "100 Bad Days", "Way Less Sad", and "World's Smallest Violin".
