The Ancients or Alterans are a fictional civilization from the television series Stargate SG-1, known for their advanced technology. Originating from the Ori galaxy, the Ancients constituted the most advanced race ever known, and were also the builders of the "Astria Porta," currently known as the "stargates." Their original name is unknown; the names by which they are known are those other races have given them.
