Argiope (spider)

The genus Argiope includes rather large orb weaver spiders that often have a strikingly coloured abdomen. These spiders are distributed throughout the world. Most countries in tropical or temperate climates host one or more Argiope species. Species in this genus are known for their distinctive body patterns and long, banded legs. They construct large, circular orb webs and are commonly found in gardens, grasslands, fields, and other areas with vegetation.
