Bad Hat Harry

Bad Hat Harry Productions, Inc. is an American film and television production company founded by filmmaker Bryan Singer in 1994. It has produced films such as The Usual Suspects (1995) and the X-Men film series, as well as television series such as House and Legion. The company's name comes from a scene in Jaws (1975) in which an elderly man named Harry wears an ill-fitting swimming cap at the beach and teases the film's protagonist Chief Brody for refusing to go in the sea, prompting Brody to retort "that's some bad hat, Harry". The original logo of the company was an animated version of this scene; the second logo, introduced in 2011, is taken from the police lineup scene of the company's first film, The Usual Suspects. In 2003, the company had signed a first-look deal with 20th Century Fox. In 2004, the company moved to Warner Bros. Pictures after he left Fox due to creative disagreements. He later moved back to Fox after the poor commercial receptions of Superman Returns and Jack the Giant Slayer. In 2006, the company signed a deal with Touchstone Television to develop projects for ABC. The company is in a suspended state of operation after accusations against Singer of sexual misconduct in 2017. Singer later resurfaced to direct a film, Monument, which was released in 2026.
