Noret is separated from Slien by the two peninsulas Store and Lille Næs. Boren is first mentioned in 1260 as Bornebul (≈ Bornebøl, derived from female name Borne and -bøl or derived from g.da. bor for an elevation). A castle (Borneborg) is mentioned at the time of Valdemar Atterdag 1357.
