Celbridge

Celbridge (; Irish: Cill Droichid [ˌciːl̠ʲ ˈd̪ˠɾˠeːdʲ], historically anglicised Kildrought) is a town and townland on the River Liffey in County Kildare, Ireland. It is 23 km (14 mi) west of Dublin city centre, and parts of the town's outskirts are in County Dublin. Both a local centre and a commuter town within the Greater Dublin Area, it is located at the intersection of the R403 and R405 regional roads. As of the 2022 census, Celbridge was the third largest town in County Kildare by population, with 20,601 residents. The origins of Celbridge can be traced to a 7th-century ecclesiastical settlement founded by St Mochua, known as Cill Droichid ("church of the bridge"), being anglicised to Celbridge after 1714. The present town developed around this ecclesiastical settlement, with significant expansion occurring from the 18th century.
