Gullah (also called Gullah-English, Sea Island Creole English, and Geechee) is a creole language historically spoken by the Gullah people (also called "Geechees" within the community), an African-American population living in the coastal areas of the U.S. states of North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia and Florida from approximately Pender County, North Carolina to St. Augustine, Florida. Today, the language is spoken by around 5,000 Gullahs mostly in parts of South Carolina and Georgia.
