Kakkanad is a suburb and major urban center in the eastern part of the Kochi metropolitan area in the Indian state of Kerala. It serves as the administrative headquarters of Ernakulam district and is one of Kerala's major information technology and business hubs.

Kakkanad is a suburb and major urban center in the eastern part of the Kochi metropolitan area in the Indian state of Kerala. It serves as the administrative headquarters of Ernakulam district and is one of Kerala's major information technology and business hubs. Located about 10 km east of central Kochi, Kakkanad is home to major technology parks, including Infopark and SmartCity Kochi, as well as several government institutions and educational establishments. It also houses multiple industrial projects including the Cochin Special Economic Zone and KINFRA. Historically a cluster of villages surrounded by paddy fields and wetlands, Kakkanad experienced rapid urbanization from the late 20th century onward. The establishment of government offices and the growth of the information technology sector transformed the area into one of the fastest-growing parts of the Kochi metropolitan region.
