Kodi Ramakrishna

Kodi Ramakrishna (23 July 1949 – 22 February 2019) was an Indian film director, screenwriter, and actor, known for his work in Telugu cinema. Over a career spanning more than three decades, he directed over 100 films, a feat that established him as one of the most prolific and versatile filmmakers in the history of the industry. His body of work ranged from hard hitting social dramas and family entertainers to high-budget supernatural thrillers. He pioneered the use of advanced visual effects and CGI in South Indian cinema. Ramakrishna's directorial debut, Intlo Ramayya Veedilo Krishnayya (1982), was a massive commercial success and marked the beginning of his dominance in the 1980s and 90s with hits like Mangammagari Manavadu (1984), Ankusham (1989), and Shatruvu (1991). His "supernatural fantasy" phase, which included groundbreaking films such as Ammoru (1995), Devi (1999), and the blockbuster Arundhati (2009), set new standards for technical excellence and redefined the commercial potential of the genre. In recognition of his immense impact on the medium, he was honoured with the Raghupathi Venkaiah Award in 2012 for his lifetime contribution to Telugu cinema. He was also a recipient of ten Nandi Awards and two Filmfare Awards .
