The district of Markersdorf lies in the south of Chemnitz. Markersdorf borders the districts of Helbersdorf, Altchemnitz, Harthau, Klaffenbach, Hutholz and Morgenleite. Originally the districts of Hutholz and Morgenleite also belonged to the Markersdorf field, so Markersdorf also extended beyond the Stollberger Straße as far as the district of Stelzendorf and the municipality of Neukirchen.
