Mazamet is a commune in the Tarn department of southern France, in the Occitanie region. It lies at the northern foot of the Montagne Noire, where the Arnette descends towards the valley of the Thoré. The town was a centre of woollen textiles and, later, délainage, the industrial removal of wool from sheepskins. Its former factories, merchants' houses and workers' neighbourhoods reflect that history.
