A Mii ( MEE) is a customizable avatar used by Nintendo on their Wii, Wii U, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2 video game consoles and mobile apps, including the Nintendo DS and Nintendo 3DS handhelds. The name is a portmanteau of "Wii" and "me", referring to them typically being avatars of the players. Miis originally debuted on the Wii in 2006, and then later appeared on the Nintendo DS in 2008, the Nintendo 3DS in 2011, the Wii U in 2012, the Nintendo Switch in 2017 and the Nintendo Switch 2 in 2025, as well as various apps for smart devices such as the now-defunct Miitomo in 2016. They competed primarily with Microsoft's Xbox Avatars.
