Molten Man

Molten Man (Mark Raxton) is a fictional character appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. Created by writer Stan Lee and artist Steve Ditko, the character first appeared in The Amazing Spider-Man #28 (September 1965). Mark Raxton is a former chemical engineer who sought to use his talents for self-gain, and the stepbrother of Liz Allan. He becomes caught in a lab accident that sees his body be covered by an experimental liquid metallic alloy, which turns his skin gold and enables him to generate extreme heat and radiation at will. Raxton initially uses his newfound powers to commit crimes as the supervillain Molten Man and becomes a recurring enemy of Spider-Man. Later storylines would establish the character's nuanced morality and desire to cure himself of his condition. With the help of his stepsister Liz, he eventually finds redemption and is cured, allowing him to lead a normal life again. The character has appeared in several media adaptations outside of comics, most notably The Spectacular Spider-Man animated series, in which he was reimagined as Liz Allan's biological, teenage brother and was voiced by Eric Lopez. Additionally, an illusionary creature based on Molten Man appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) film Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019).
