Onkyo

Onkyo Corporation was a Japanese consumer electronics company that specialized in premium home cinema and audio equipment, including AV receivers, surround sound speakers and portable devices. It was active as an independent company from 1946 to 2022, but remains active as a trademark brand under joint operation by Sharp Corporation and Voxx International. The company started under the name of Osaka Denki Onkyo K.K. in 1946 (a company not related to Nippon Denki Onkyo, which became Denon). Its umbrella included Integra and Integra Research divisions as well as the main Onkyo brand. In 2010, Onkyo restructured into a holding company with its main operation named Onkyo Sound & Vision Corporation. In 2015, Onkyo purchased Pioneer Home Electronics, the home audio division of Pioneer Corporation, which operated as a subsidiary of Onkyo Corporation. In 2020, the holding company was renamed to Onkyo Home Entertainment Corporation. The company filed for bankruptcy in 2022; the Onkyo brand now does business under joint ownership by Sharp Corporation and Voxx International.
