Regulate (song)

"Regulate" is a song performed by American rappers Warren G and Nate Dogg. It was released in April 1994 as the first single from the soundtrack to the film Above the Rim and later Warren G's debut album, Regulate... G Funk Era (1994). It became an MTV staple and the song reached No. 2 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and No. 8 on the R&B/Hip-Hop chart. "Regulate" was number 98 on VH1's 100 Greatest Songs of Hip Hop and number 108 on Pitchfork Media's "Top 200 Tracks of the 90s". The West Coast hip-hop track employs a four-bar sample of the rhythm of Michael McDonald's song "I Keep Forgettin' (Every Time You're Near)". It also samples "Sign of the Times" by Bob James and interpolates "Let Me Ride" by Dr. Dre. The music video featured scenes from Above the Rim, including a cameo by Tupac Shakur. "Regulate" starts with dialogue spoken by Casey Siemaszko performing as the character Charlie Bowdre from the 1988 film Young Guns: We regulate any stealing of his property – we're damn good too! ...But you can't be any geek off the street, gotta be handy with the steel, if you know what I mean, earn your keep.
