Shchedrivka

Ukrainian and Belarusian genre of carols performed in the week between New Year and Christmas

Shchedrivka (Ukrainian: щедрівка; plural щедрівки, shchedrivky) is a genre of traditional Ukrainian ritual song performed on New Year's Eve (Щедрий вечір, lit. 'Bounteous Evening'). It is customary that shchedrivky, similarly to koliadky (Christmas songs), glorify the host and his family during caroling.
