The Maytals are a Jamaican music group known for introducing the word "reggae" into song with their single Do the Reggay in 1968. The group has been at the forefront of reggae, ska and rocksteady since the 1960s. As founder of Island Records, Chris Blackwell said of them: "The Maytals didn't sound like anyone… their sound was sensational, raw and dynamic".
