Vertica is a column-oriented analytical database management system designed for large-scale data warehousing and analytics workloads. The platform is based on research from the C-Store academic project and was founded in 2005 by database researcher Michael Stonebraker, with Andrew Palmer serving as the company's first chief executive officer. Vertica uses a columnar storage architecture and massively parallel processing (MPP) design to support analytical queries across distributed computing environments. The platform is available for deployment on-premises, in private clouds, and on public cloud infrastructure.
