The Vietnam War Draft was a military draft implemented under the Selective Service System, drafting over 1.7 million men to serve in the Vietnam War. During the peacetime years before the Vietnam War, a draft existed, while many soldiers were joined on a voluntary basis. In the second half of 1965, with American troops entering Vietnam, there was a substantial expansion of the US armed forces, and this required a dramatic increase in the number of men drafted each month.
