Airborne ECM flare and chaff ejection system
The AN/ALE-47 airborne countermeasures dispenser is used to protect military aircraft from incoming radar and infrared homing missiles. It works by dispensing flares or chaff from a large variety of military aircraft.

The AN/ALE-47 airborne countermeasures dispenser is used to protect military aircraft from incoming radar and infrared homing missiles. It works by dispensing flares or chaff from a large variety of military aircraft. In accordance with the Joint Electronics Type Designation System (JETDS), the "AN/ALE-47" designation represents the 47th design of an Army – Navy airborne electronic device for countermeasures ejection equipment. The JETDS system is now also used to name all Department of Defense and some NATO electronic systems.
