Bonalu is one of the most prominent Hindu festivals of Telangana, dedicated to Goddess Mahakali. Celebrated annually across Hyderabad, Secunderabad, and other parts of the state, it is regarded as an important expression of Telangana's religious and cultural heritage. . Although the largest celebrations take place in Hyderabad and Secunderabad, Bonalu is observed in numerous towns and villages throughout Telangana, with Mahakali temples serving as focal points for community worship. The festival is observed during the Hindu month of Ashada (June–July or July–August), with celebrations taking place over several weeks at different Mahakali temples according to traditional temple calendars, which is around July and/or August.
