BrahMos Aerospace Private Limited (BAPL) is an Indo-Russian aerospace and defence joint venture responsible for the design, development, production, integration and marketing of the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile system. The company is jointly owned by India's Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and Russia's NPO Mashinostroyenia, with respective equity shares of 50.5 per cent and 49.5 per cent. The name BrahMos is derived from the Brahmaputra River of India and the Moskva River of Russia. The BrahMos system has been developed for launch from mobile land launchers, surface warships and Sukhoi Su-30MKI aircraft, while an underwater-launched configuration has also been developed. BrahMos systems are in service with the Indian Army, Indian Navy and Indian Air Force.
