David William McBride (born 15 December 1963) is an Australian whistleblower, former British Army major, and Australian Army lawyer. In 2016, McBride provided the Australian Broadcasting Corporation with documents that contained information about war crimes committed by Australian soldiers in Afghanistan.

David William McBride (born 15 December 1963) is an Australian whistleblower, former British Army major, and Australian Army lawyer. In 2016, McBride provided the Australian Broadcasting Corporation with documents that contained information about war crimes committed by Australian soldiers in Afghanistan. In 2018, McBride was charged with several offences related to unlawfully disclosing Commonwealth documents. In 2023, he pleaded guilty to the charges. On 14 May 2024, McBride was sentenced to five years and eight months in prison, with a non-parole period of two years and three months. McBride was released from prison in August 2026 on parole granted by attorney-general Michelle Rowland. He will continue his sentence under subversion and conditions.
