Unlike ghosts (gwisin), which are believed to be the souls of the dead, dokkaebi are supernatural beings associated with inanimate objects that have acquired a spirit, including old brooms, inkstones, and household tools stained with human blood. The one-legged dokkakgwi is one form of the dokkaebi.
