Michael Byron Nifong (born September 14, 1950) is a former American attorney who was disbarred after serving as the Durham County District Attorney in North Carolina. He was removed from this position, disbarred, and briefly jailed following court findings concerning his conduct in the Duke lacrosse rape hoax.

Michael Byron Nifong (born September 14, 1950) is a former American attorney who was disbarred after serving as the Durham County District Attorney in North Carolina. He was removed from this position, disbarred, and briefly jailed following court findings concerning his conduct in the Duke lacrosse rape hoax. Among other wrongdoings, he was found to have conspired with the DNA lab director to withhold exculpatory DNA evidence that would have exonerated the defendants.
