Between the Lions

Between the Lions is an American educational children's television series designed to promote reading that combines live-action, sketch comedy, animation, and puppetry. The show is a co-production between WGBH in Boston, Sirius Thinking, Ltd., in New York City, and Mississippi Public Broadcasting (the latter PBS station co-producing from 2005 to 2010) in Jackson, the distributor from seasons 1–10. The show won ten Daytime Emmy awards between 2001 and 2007. The show premiered on PBS Kids on April 3, 2000, taking over the schedule slot held by The Puzzle Place upon its debut, and ended on November 22, 2010. While not produced with Sesame Workshop's involvement, it is created by alumni of the fellow PBS children's show Sesame Street, which was produced by Sesame Workshop, and featured guest appearances from some of its characters. Furthermore, it is a companion piece to Sesame Street aimed at slightly older children.
