Trunk Music is the sixth novel by American crime author Michael Connelly, and the fifth featuring the Los Angeles detective Hieronymus "Harry" Bosch. In his first case since he transferred to Homicide, Connelly's character Bosch investigates a body found in the trunk of a Rolls-Royce near the Hollywood Bowl. The death seems to have connections to the Mafia in Las Vegas. After the victim's name and address are discovered, Bosch and one of his teammates interview his wife. Bosch searches a small office where the victim maintained a small studio facility. He examines the surveillance video of the entrance to the office, which shows that the office had been broken into and that phone bugs were removed. The team later finds out that a branch of LAPD had placed bugs on the victim's phone without authorization. Bosch is sent to Las Vegas to track down what the victim was doing there and who had contact with him there. He sees video of a poker game the victim was in, and recognizes one of the other players as a former FBI agent, Eleanor Wish, with whom he once had an intimate relationship. Bosch spends the night with her.
